Currently Hiring: Independent Contractor Roles

We are actively seeking skilled professionals to join our team as Independent Contractors. These roles are home-based, flexible, and self-employed, giving you the freedom to work around your lifestyle and commitments.

Roles available:

  • Transcribers: Convert audio and video into highly accurate text. Various languages required.
  • Note-takers: Take near-verbatim notes at in-person or online meetings or events.
  • Translators: Translate written content accurately between languages.
  • Interpreters: Provide oral interpretation for meetings, interviews, and events in the UK and abroad.

Requirements for all Independent Roles

  • Registered as self-employed
  • Fast, secure internet connection
  • Own laptop/PC with antivirus software
  • High level of accuracy in typing or language skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven experience and references
  • Currently hold, or willing to obtain, security vetting to DBS or SC level (role dependent)

Role-Specific Requirements:

  • Independent Transcriber Contractors: Minimum 3 years’ proven transcription experience; UK based; high-quality headphones and foot pedal (if required).
  • Independent Note-Takers: Minimum 2 years’ experience in note, or minute-taking; UK based.
  • Independent Translators: Professional translation experience; native speaker of the target language; excellent written skills; member of a professional language services body (eg ITI or CIOL); experience with specialised or technical content preferred.
  • Independent Interpreters: Professional interpreting experience; excellent verbal skills in source and target languages; member of a professional language services body (eg ITI or CIOL); ability to work in person when required.

Future Opportunities: Employed Roles

We may have positions for employed transcribers in the future, both on-site at our Exeter office and remotely across the UK. These roles involve typing, editing, and proofreading audio recordings to provide clients with accurate transcripts, so you’ll need excellent typing speeds and accuracy and the ability to pass security clearance (DBS/SC).

On-site (Exeter-based) Roles:

  • Work from our secure Exeter office
  • Live within commuting distance of Exeter
  • Training provided

Remote UK Roles:

  • Work from anywhere in the UK
  • Previous transcription experience required
  • Fast, secure internet connection
  • Equipment provided by Appen for home working
